Sculptra™ Facial Contouring FAQs

  • How Does It Work?

As a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator, Sculptra is different to other dermal fillers. It works with your body within the deep dermis, to help revitalize collagen production and help restore your skin’s inner structure and volume.

Through a series of injections Scupltra™ immediately fills out wrinkles and sunken/aged areas of the face, such as hollows in the cheeks and sunken eyes. The real effects of Sculptra™ become evident in the weeks following treatment, Sculptra™ PLLA micro-particles are absorbed into the body, which help stimulate your collagen production. Rebuilt collagen strands begin gradually helping to restore facial volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds.

  • What Can I Expect In Treatment?

A numbing cream will be applied to the face prior to treatment to make it more comfortable. Sculptra is then injected deep into the fatty tissue using a fine needle in precise, targeted areas. The doctor or nurse then massages the product to smooth the product across the area.

  • Are There Any Side Effects?

Immediately after treatment you may see some redness and swelling at the injection site and it may feel tender to touch. These side effects typically disappear within a few hours. Some clients experience temporary bruising in the week following treatment. It is very important that the treated area is massaged daily post-treatment to distribute the product (your practitioner will advise) and that it is protected with a high sun protection cream daily.

  • How Many Treatments Would I Need?

On average, three treatments are needed over a period of a few months. The number of treatments and the number of injections per appointment vary from person to person, depending on the client’s age and the volume of collagen lost.

  • What Results Can I Expect To See?

After treatment you will see an immediate improvement in facial lines and wrinkles. As the poly-L-lactic acid is absorbed into the body you may need a slight increase in wrinkle depth again but in the weeks following your bodies own collagen production will increase to rebuild skin structure.

You will see a subtle and progressive improvement in facial volume, lines and wrinkles and overall rejuvenation will reveal a fresher, more youthful appearance.
